Lindsay, Oklahoma

I finished the second grade and started the third in Lindsay.  There was a flood while we lived there.  Mom described it this way.."The Washita River made a loop and Lindsay was in the middle of the loop." After the water went down, everyone had to go to the school gym for a shot of some kind.  Typhoid? Tetanus? Don't think anyone ever thought it was important to tell me. Our trailer was not affected as we were located on a raised piece of ground with a huge concrete slab for a porch.  Honestly, the slab was as long as the trailer.  (The slab was already there, it was not custom made for us!)

I think those may have been lean times, as I needed paste for school and Mom made some from scratch.  Now, those who know how our Mom was may just assume that she wanted to do this.  However, remember, three little kids, small trailer, I really don't know. I remember that I really wanted some "boughten" paste! Other than that, I don't recall much about school.  I always liked school and was a good student, so there was not any turmoil involved...UNTIL we got to Elk City. (teaser!)

On New Years Eve, Ginger and I were allowed to stay up with Daddy to see the New Year in.  I didn't make it...a sleepy head even then.  Ginger did, though. We were "seeing" the New Year in on the radio.

I am trying to figure out when we got our dog, Sue.  I will have to find some old pictures and guess the location by the first time she is in a photo!

On to Elk City, Oklahoma next!

  1. I don't remember ever using paste in school, only Elmer's glue. Was Elmer's an improvement over paste, or did paste just fade from fashion?

  2. Paste would dry out once the jar was opened. Elmer's could be better sealed, I think.
